Situated along the headwaters of the Magnolia River, ¬†just recently designated as an “Outstanding Alabama Waterway” by the Alabama Environmental Management Commission,¬†the beautiful¬†and historic community of Magnolia Springs, AL¬†was developed in 1800 from a Spanish land grant. The water from the many natural springs of the river was declared the “purest known”, providing¬†cures for kidney, uric and similar troubles.¬†Following the War Between the States¬†the river community¬†became a popular destination for families and descendants of many¬†Confederate and even Union¬†soldiers. The town remains the last community with “year-round mail service by boat”.
Every¬†July 4th natives and transplants alike beam with pride and patriotism. Most all residents and some from surrounding areas gather along oak-lined canopied Oak St to celebrate our country’s independence. The festivities begin with a parade that begins each year promptly at 11am, once tauted by CNN as the nation’s smallest Independence Parade. Everyone is welcome to participate. You may see old tractors, bicycles, tricycles, wheelbarrows or even riding lawn mowers.
Residents and their guests¬†are invited to follow the recession to the Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Dept to enjoy hot dogs, refreshments, and even water activities for the kids. The scenic Magnolia River offers a cool respite from the July sun, the Cold Hole being the most popular area for river enjoyment. Alabama Paddlesports can prepare you for most any water activity. Magnolia Springs B&B, just one of many great Alabama¬†bed and breakfast inns,¬†is the best place to take in the parade.¬†Only 9 miles from the Alabama Beaches, we offer a great alternative to Gulf Shores Hotels and Lodging. Moore Bros. General Merchandise has been a very important part of Magnolia Springs‚Äô history for the last 75 years. The¬†inn, originally built as The Sunnyside Hotel, has some very exciting news. The Wharf at Orange Beach Alabama¬†offers all-inclusive living¬†including shopping, dining, entertainment, even a Rave Motion Picture Theater. They also boast the largest Ferris wheel on the east coast. There are also a number of restaurants worth checking out. Villaggio¬†Grille, one of our most favorites, offers wood-fired pizzas along with a plethora of Italian selections. For excellent sushi, Live Bait at the Wharf serves up fresh “goodness”.¬†Afterwards stop by Guy Harvey’s Boat Bar for a tot-tie.
The Amphitheater at The Wharf  has the biggest entertainment on the coast.  The 9,500 capacity Amphitheater is situated among scenic wetlands, all modern amenities at hand.
The Pepsi Concert Series has nothing but talent scheduled for this summer’s festivities at The Wharf Amphitheater:
The Amphitheater provides patrons with a unique, affordable opportunity to see their favorite concert or event so don’t delay, make your plans to visit Gulf Shores & Orange Beach areas today.
The 1 year anniversary of the spill has passed. The beaches are in better shape than I have ever seen and the weather is great. The¬†Coastal Resiliency Coalition¬†hosted “Dinner on the Sand”¬† for 500 people at the Gulf State Park Beach to show the public that it’s time to get our feet back in the sand and enjoy the bounty of safe Gulf seafood. That is literally one extra long table. Chef Guy Fieri¬†made an appearance along with Gov. Brantley and Congressman Joe Bonner.
Get your feet back in the sand, make your beach reservations soon.
The town of Magnolia Springs also made their stand against the oil. Despite interference¬† from political and government officials, the town elected to commission 9 barges and¬†6 rows of containment boom¬† to span “Big Mouth” where Weeks Bay flows into Mobile Bay to protect a 3,000 acre estuary, where rivers meet the sea. Special contributions by the town’s Mayor, Charlie Houser and Fire Chief, Jamie Hinton. Thank you for your dedication.

We have¬†adopted the “open door” policy¬†at our Alabama bed and breakast to meet¬†our guest’s needs. Pictured is a ¬†new much wider door being installed by Jason Haffner. It offers much easier access for our guests. It looks great, now needs to be painted.
We have had some inquiries about furnishing bathrobes for the guest rooms. While attending the National Innkeepers Conference this past January, we learned that some B&B guests expect  bathrobes to be available so we have teamed up with DNJ Specialties to grant their wishes. Guest rooms are now furnished with embroidered bathrobes and I must say they are pretty cool.
Just a reminder that¬†every 2nd weekend in April ¬†is the Strawberry Festival in Loxley, AL. Come on out and see that strawberry shortcake is still “king”. Thanks for readin’ y’all !

Elizabeth Dorney is a blogger from Milford, CT who visited the Gulf Coast in Oct 2010.
We so much enjoyed having her. She took lots of pictures and blogged about her stay in the Fall, “I am obsessed with front porches and in the South they are always spacious and generously-appointed places to take in nature, without sacrificing creature comforts.” Elizabeth has a wonderful blog so be sure to check it out.
Thank you so much Elizabeth for your most gracious testimonial. Please visit again soon. Snickers misses you.
Many of you have submitted your reviews on various directories and we would like to thank you for your time and creating such great reviews.  Stay tuned because spring is here and the area is hopping again.
